Art students build up a head of 'STEAM'
One of my favorite projects that came to life was a process that took an entire semester through summer to complete. I worked as a team on UTC’s Challenger Center to bridge art into STEM. It’s a large 30ft vinyl mural with wood lettering accents to make the wall “pop” that resides beside the spaceship at one of their entrances. It’s comprised of many digital illustrations and custom lettering. The Challenger Center wanted to use it as an educational tool, but also as a pop of color and personality to the space because most of the interior was grey. It’s meant for K-12 to experience and learn about STEAM. Over the summer I was able to grow in my practice by helping install the mural and cut, paint, and hang the wooden letters. It was a surreal experience seeing something I and a few others worked on for months come to life and look exactly how we had envisioned.
